Urban Sanitation, India’s premier magazine for cleanliness instituted one of the most high - profile event of the year on the subject of sanitation, ‘SMART GREEN SANITATION FOR SMART GREEN CITIES’. Supported by the Ministry of Urban Development (Govt. of India), the one-day conference cum felicitation ceremony was held on 19th June 2015 at Le Meridian, New Delhi.
The conference, organised to mark the publication’s third anniversary, witnessed presentations and panel discussions by eminent specialists on relevant topics and pressing issues that concern social and administrative aspects of sanitation in our cities. The event was attended by municipal corporation heads, developers, NGOs, environment experts, academicians and prominent people from the social sector and media.
Praveen Prakash, Joint Secretary (Works & Mission Director, Swacch Bharat Mission), Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India released the coffee table book along with Dr. Prem C. Jain, Chairman, Indian Green Building Council and Chairman, AECOM India; V. Suresh, Advisor, Good Governance, India Foundation and Former CMD – Housing and Urban Development Corporation Ltd. (HUDCO); and Arun Sahai, State Co-ordinator, Builders Association of India (BAI) – Delhi Centre and Executive Director and COO, Ahluwalia Contracts (India) Ltd.
Anurag Yadav, Consulting Editor and Sheital Shetty, Editor & Publisher, Urban Sanitation, welcomed the delegates and guests to the event. Prominent attendees included Shazia Ilmi, Social Activist and Brand Ambassador of PM’s Swacchh Bharat Mission; Dr. P.S.N. Rao, Chairman, Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC) and Professor and Head of Department, Housing and Registrar, School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi (SPA); Dr. Lalit Kumar, Sr. Vice President, Sulabh International, Social Service Organisation; Sameer Sinha, Managing Director, Savvy Infrastructure Pvt. Subjects like ‘Sanitation: A Business’, ‘City Sanitation is more than Sweeping & Toilets’, ‘Seven Shades of Sanitation’ were the talking point during the panel discussions.
The second part of the event saw the launch of the anniversary issue and a felicitation ceremony- Urban Sanitation Hurrah! ‘Urban Sanitation Hurrah!’ - a felicitation and recognition of exceptional work done by individuals, organisations and experts towards making India a cleaner place. Seven recipients from different parts of the country were felicitated for their contribution towards the society.
