With an aim to make Kolkata garbage free, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has embarked on a new plan through sanction from the JNNURM scheme. According to KMC's Mayor-in-Council, Debabrata Mazumdar, JNNURM has sanctioned Rs. 110 crore this year for the project through which compactors will be purchased to make the city totally garbage free.
Additionally Rs. 44 crore has been sanctioned for building a garbage dumping ground in the city. Meanwhile, KMC mayor has also announced Rs. 67.81 crore will be spent to renovate the 100-year old water reservoir in the city. The work is targeted to be completed this year.
