Wockhardt Foundation is planning to install bio-toilets in several places of Mumbai including households, construction sites, airports, village central points, educational institutions, pilgrimage sites and slums. It aims to offer a complete solid waste management solution for 6-7 users in a family, which very effectively addresses every environmental issue at a nominal cost.
According to Dr. Huzaifa Khorakiwala, Trustee and CEO, Wockhardt Foundation, bio-toilets play a critical role in preventable healthcare, and these toilets are touted as eco-friendly and a cost effective solution, as it decomposes the solid waste into water and bio-gas, and only requires a one-time installation. He further explained that its cost effectiveness compared to other available waste disposal systems is another benefit. Bio-toilets are believed to be a complete waste management solution, which alleviates the need for expensive sewage treatment and waste management. The foundation has recently installed the bio-toilets in Bharat Nagar in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai.
